The Center for Food Safety filed a suit against the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, claiming it withheld information on GMO crops.
The suit alleges APHIS did not respond to requests for records related to GMO regulations or inquiries about the handling of experimental GM wheat that was found growing uncontrolled in an Oregon field in 2013. It argues APHIS would also not release records about other experimental crops.
The requests have covered a range of crops including GMO wheat, rice, alfalfa, sugar beets, bent grass, and corn, and delays in providing information have run years for some requests. The lawsuit asks the court to order the agency to release the records and declare its actions unlawful, reports Reuters.
