Chefs are cautiously optimistic about the future of Niman Ranch products after the sustainable food leader’s sale to chicken giant Perdue Farms.
Perdue announced on Sept. 8 that it would purchase Natural Food Holdings, parent company Alameda, Calif.-based Niman Ranch, known for its humane business practices and work with family farms. Perdue is purchasing the company from private equity firm LNK Partners for an undisclosed amount.
Niman Ranch beef and pork gained popularity in the foodie scene after word spread about its cattle and pork being raised with all-natural feeds and the overall quality of the meat.
Industry professionals are waiting to see what, if any, changes will occur at the company as a result of the acquisition by the nation’s fourth-largest chicken producer.
